IT HAS KIND OF KILLED ME

It has kind of killed me to tell you about this. The man who had been my lover sat on the divan making anagrams out of Shakespeare’s sonnets. I was nervous about lineage and public assistance. I was half-cool but not entirely. Several men declared publicly that they would destroy me. Several men declared privately that they would destroy me. I did not believe in the abstract lyric. There had been cartoons. We were on lists.
